Commercial Solar Cost: What a Business Proposal Should Include
Operating hours, energy use and building constraints should drive the commercial solar business case.

Begin with consumption, not the roof alone
A large roof does not automatically mean a large system is the best investment. Collect bills across representative months and identify daily operating hours, weekday/weekend differences and seasonal variation. A daytime business and a night-shift operation can use solar energy differently.
The calculator estimates energy savings using a configurable tariff. It does not model every tariff slab, demand charge, financing arrangement or export settlement. Those details belong in the business-specific study.
The commercial cost checklist
| Item | Question for the proposal |
|---|---|
| Building | Who owns the roof, and what approvals or tenancy arrangements apply? |
| Operations | What work requires shutdowns, access controls or out-of-hours installation? |
| Design | How was capacity chosen from the load profile and available area? |
| Finance | Which tariff, escalation, maintenance and replacement assumptions are used? |
| Ownership | Who maintains the system and receives monitoring access? |
Subsidy and investment
The residential PM Surya Ghar subsidy is not included for commercial properties in this calculator. Evaluate the gross investment, expected annual operating savings and your own financial criteria. A simple payback figure is not the same as discounted cash flow or an investment return after borrowing costs.
Ask for sensitivity cases: a lower generation estimate, slower tariff growth and extra maintenance cost. If the project only works financially under optimistic assumptions, identify which inputs need better evidence.
Prepare a useful assessment
Provide recent bills, operating schedules, roof information and planned load changes. For a factory, include available electrical drawings and installation constraints. V Power can then discuss a proposal under commercial solar or a technical and ROI study for industrial solar.
